Rachel Boim
I climbed my first mountain over 4000m at the age of 33 in June of 2021. Before Mount Blanc, I was an avid hiker, weightlifter and someone who ran to maintain fitness. I remember getting to the summit and having this one clear, perfect thought, “As long as I can continue to experience beauty like this, everything else will be ok.”
I came down determined to change my trajectory and facilitate a life where my main focus could be climbing mountains and exploring trails. I decided to try my hand (or should I say legs) at FKTs and trail racing. In my first year as a dedicated endurance athlete, I set 5 FKTs, including the Kilimanjaro Summit Circuit, Aconcagua’s short ascent and Namche Bazaar to Everest Base Camp Round Trip.
More recently, I have been alternating between high altitude speed ascents like the iconic Huayna Potosi mountain in Bolivia and 100k races in Europe. My training is a mix of rock climbing, weightlifting, long trail runs, and yoga. When I’m not training, I work as a physical therapist with a specialty on injury prevention and rehabilitation for endurance athletes.
On the other side of the coin, I am also an end-of-life care consultant. I make sure people have the equipment they need and their families are educated on how to care for them in the final stages of life. My job encourages me to stay present in the moment and love all the little things life has to offer. I try to love every day, no matter what challenges I may face, and I think this attitude has contributed immensely to my success as an athlete.
